Advice from the Department of Health

The Australian Government Department of Health & Aged Care stand will feature a host of health care measures available to older West Australians.

Older age continues to be the biggest risk factor for severe COVID-19 disease and the Department says vaccination rates are lower than needed to protect our older community, particularly aged care residents. From help with booking COVID-19 vaccinations with boosters recommended for people aged 65 and over every 12 months and eligible for a dose every six months. For people aged 75 and older boosters are recommended every six months.

They can also help with information about the influenza vaccine, who it is recommended for, how and where to get vaccinated. If you are eligible, you can get the influenza vaccine for free under the National Immunisation Program.

The government has also lowered the age for its bowel cancer screening from 50 to 45 which aims to save lives through early detection. Mental health can affect anyone at any stage of life, but help is available 24 hours a day, seven days a week anywhere in Australia.
